Gilgen makes the perfect entrance for Bott

When Bott launched a new £1.1million 13,000sqft extension to its vehicle conversion and enhancement centre in Ashby De La Zouch earlier this year, nine new specialist industrial doors from Gilgen Door Systems were chosen to help ensure the highest levels efficiency and environmental performance for the building.

Gilgen evaluated Bott’s door system requirements in the context of its new facility and designated workflows. Following a detailed proposal the company was awarded the contract for installation of the doors, consisting of three Rolegard Roller Shutters, four Kwikroll high speed doors and two sectional overhead doors with associated activation equipment.

The Rolegard roller shutters are 4m wide by 5m high and powered through a direct drive motor with 3phase power supply. Two of the shutters feature rapid operation and are vehicle activated by induction loop, giving the facility the combined benefit of security and speed of entry for vans and other equipment. The other shutter features an insulated core which helps to reduce heat loss from the building and associated utility bills. Each shutter curtain also features 15 integrated ‘clear view’ panels to help maximise natural light and vision.

The sectional overhead doors are 3.5m wide by 3.3m high and powered through a 3phase direct drive. The slide-over design maximises internal space by parking the open door in the roof area. These doors feature an insulated core for energy efficiency and two rows of four vision panels maximise natural light when the doors are shut.

Four Kwikroll KR530SE high speed doors were installed to separate different operational areas of the building, such as the graphics production area. They are operated through a pull switch linked to a cantilever arm and high speed operation of up to 2m per second ensures easy access whilst dramatically reducing noise and contamination throughout the building. Each Kwikroll door, the largest of which is 4.3m x 3.4m in size, features a sequential light curtain offering obstacle detection across the door opening with stop and return function. This prevents any contact with the curtain and a large central viewing panel also helps ensure day to day safety.

Terry Knott, Site Services Manager at Bott comments “We have a good relationship with Gilgen Door Systems. The Gilgen engineering team did a great job installing the new doors within the agreed schedule and we are delighted with the appearance and quality of the finished product”.
